Obedience to God’s Call: What a Donkey Teaches Us About Surrender
- Sermon By: Dennis Campbell
- Categories: Obedience, Palm Sunday
Sometimes, God’s greatest lessons come through the most unexpected messengers. In Luke 19, Jesus prepares to enter Jerusalem for what we now call Palm Sunday—and He sends two disciples to untie a young donkey with a simple instruction: “The Lord has need of it.” It’s a powerful picture of obedience to God’s call.
A Lesson in Surrender from an Unexpected Source
The donkey wasn’t special. It didn’t have experience or prestige. It was simply available. And that’s the point. God isn’t looking for perfection—He’s looking for surrender. This sermon from Pastor Dennis Campbell explores how a tied-up colt became part of a parade that fulfilled prophecy, revealed Jesus as King, and ultimately prepared the way for the cross.
When God calls, it often starts with a nudge—an invitation to release something we’ve been holding onto. It might be comfort, control, resources, or even a calling we’ve been afraid to pursue. But as we see in this message, obedience to God’s call unlocks purpose. It moves us from the sidelines to the center of God’s story.
And it doesn’t stop with the donkey. The owners gave up what they had. The disciples followed instructions. The crowd shouted praise. At that moment, everyone had a choice—to obey or resist.
What is God asking you to release today?
Where is He inviting you to say yes?
If you’ve ever felt too ordinary to be used by God, this message will encourage your heart and challenge your faith. Because when the Lord has need of it, your “yes“ could become part of something far bigger than you ever imagined.
