Letting Him Speak: The Power of Words from Jesus to Transform Your Speech

Words have great power, and it’s important to use them wisely. In the Bible, the word “corrupt” means something rotten or spoiled. As followers of Jesus, we are called to live differently and avoid speaking corrupt words that go against our transformed nature.

So, it’s crucial to understand the power of our words. We should strive to speak words that uplift, encourage, and honor God. He is working in us to help us bring our tongues under control and use our speech to bless and show grace to others.

The Power of Words:

Our tongues have great influence. James warns that the tongue can be set on fire by evil forces, causing immense damage. Sometimes, we say things in the heat of the moment and later regret it.

Our words reveal what’s in our hearts. Sometimes, we may unintentionally say things that expose our hidden thoughts and feelings. Once spoken, we cannot take back our words, so we must be careful about what fills our hearts and minds.

Edifying Words:

Along with avoiding harmful language, God calls us to use pure, helpful, and pleasing speech. Our words should build up and encourage others. Even when correction is necessary, it can be done constructively.

We must consider if our words bring goodness and helpfulness. Let’s strive to speak life and choose words that bring grace to those who hear. When people interact with us, they should feel happy and uplifted.

Appropriate Words:

It is crucial for our words to be appropriate for the situation. Not every word needs to be profound or quotable, but they should align with scripture and contribute positively to others. Knowing when to speak, what to say, and to whom takes wisdom. Sometimes, it’s best to say nothing if we have nothing valuable to contribute.

Gracious Words:

Speaking with grace means expressing truth with love. Jesus always spoke graciously, and we should strive to speak like Him. Our words should bring comfort and encouragement to those who are weary.

We should always fill our speech with grace and season it with salt, as mentioned in the Bible. We should know how to respond to each person with grace and wisdom.

Our words have a lasting impact on others. By choosing our words wisely and speaking kindly, we reflect our transformed nature as followers of Jesus. Let us strive to be like Him, using our words to bring life, encouragement, and blessings to those around us.
